1 Drive your own dog sledge

Top Image: 1423

The bus and local guide meet the guest at the pier.  During the trip to the dog center the guest will be informed about Alta and its history, culture, economy and day-to-day live.  We drive up the Alta Valley and to the dog sledge centre. The dog center invites you on an adventurous husky safari! Drive your own dog-sledge or relax and enjoy the scenery as a passenger. We take you through the pine forest following the banks of the Alta River or up through Altadalen valley to the Finnmarksvidda mountain plain. We serve coffee/tea and cakes in our lavvu or outdoors around an open fire. We explain how we train our huskies, and prepare both ourselves and the huskies for the Finnmarksløpet race, a true test of stamina and Europe’s longest dog race covering 1000 km. The track that you are driving is 100km.  That means that the tour on the dog sledge is from 50 min – 1 hour depending on the weather condition and the speed. The dog center is providing necessary equipment and clothing before start, such as thermal suit, shoes and gloves. Then after this ice cold experience we return to the pier.
