Cruise Northern Norway & Svalbard

1 Highlights of Longyearbyen

Top Image: 2975

See the historic and cultural highlights of Longyearbyen, named after American entrepreneur John Munro Longyear who founded the town and the neighboring coal mine in 1906. Visit Svalbard Church, the world's northernmost church, and enjoy spectacular views over the surrounding landscape from the cableway station. At the Svalbard Museum you can gain an insight into the region's history, geology and whaling and mining industries, and at the Arctic Art Gallery you will see works by local artists along with the film 'Svalbard's Arctic Nature'. We drive trough Adventdalen where you can admire the desolate beauty of the valley. You also get to visit Basecamp Trapper's Station where you will get the chance to meet our friendly huskies, learn about dog sledging and find out more about the history of the trapper’s and their rough life at Spitsbergen.
