Top Image: 2933

Longyearbyen is surrounded by high mountains. At the end of the Longyear valley, Larsbreen and Longyearbreen forces their way around the mountain Sarkofagen. The surrounding area has fascinating vegetation, and you will get a nice view over Adventfjorden. Outside the village, we begin the trip by walking through the moraine landscape leading up to the Longyear glacier; situated 150 meters above sea level. There are 2 river crossings before entering the glacier. On the way we will stop and look for 60 million year old plant fossils, which you may take home as a souvenir.
