Port of Kirkenes

Kirkenes – Where Lapland meets the Arctic Ocean – is a small town in the eastern part of northern Norway founded in 1826. The local history is diverse and rich in content, and the samic heritage is a key component of the about 10.000 years long history of the Varanger region.

Kirkenes offers activities for people of all ages and varied and breathtaking seashore, mountainious and wilderness nature. We offer dog sled excursion into the wilderness in the winter or at nearby rivers on a riverboat in the summer, as well as a variety of other local attractions.

You can also go on King Crab safari with local guides, or just enjoy the sunlight all day and night in the summer, or an cold dark winternight with the northern lights. All parts of our municipality on the 200 kilometers long Norwegian border to Russia can be reached in one-day trips.
